Replacing a Back Country Upper

You will need a Phillips head screwdriver and a new gaiter/upper from as well as vice grips for leverage.

Before you begin

Gather your tools:

You will need a Phillips head screwdriver, vice grips, and replacement parts (new upper and hardware).

Apply Loctite:

We recommend applying Loctite to the new screws to help prevent them from loosening after installation.

Step-by-step replacement

Remove the old hardware:
- Fold the gaiter back to expose the screws.
- Use vice grips to hold the gaiter in place for leverage.
- Unscrew the old hardware, starting with the front screws and then the back screws. The back screw may be the most difficult to remove.
- Keep the old washers and screws in case they are needed.
